Time to install WordPress?

WordPress is a fantastically user-friendly piece of software that you shouldn’t be without. The difficulty a few of us have is getting started, but that’s nothing to worry about as at Pronto…we have you covered!

Before You Get Started…

• Make sure you have access to your web server
• Make sure you can create documents in a text editor
• Decide on your chosen web browser
• Have a FTP Client and be able to create your own MySQL Databases

Step 1: Get Unzipping

Download the WordPress package onto your chosen device and then unzip the file. All this means is that you are decompressing the file so that your computer can see and access everything that it needs to get you up and running.

Step 2: Make That Database

To get going and show you what it can do, WordPress needs a database located on your web server. So that everything runs smoothly you’ll need to create a MySQL user that will be able to both access, and modify the database. To put it simply; this is how WordPress gets busy working for you.

Step 3: Pop WordPress On the PC

Choose the specific location on your shiny new server that you want to pop WordPress. There are two choices for your consideration at this point; either put it in the root directory of your server, or create its own subdirectory on your website. The choice is yours, and remember to make it work that you’ll need to upload all of the unzipped contents of your original WordPress download.

Step 4: Run the Final Script

Go back to the URL where you uploaded your WordPress files. Hit the installation script and your PC will run it. Because steps 1 – 3 have put the right bits in the right place, now you can hand the reins over to your computer and let it do the rest.

Step 5: Get Publishing

Now that you’re up and running you can publish away till your heart’s content. Get busy, get creative, and if you ever need a helping hand there’s plenty of amazing tutorials online that will get you headed in the right direction.
